Investing in the Artists of
Asheville’s River Arts District

The RADA Foundation exists to help artists thrive in place. Through scholarships, space solutions, emergency aid, and cultural programming, we are building an ecosystem of support that sustains Asheville’s creative economy. Every program we offer is designed to meet artists where they are, reduce barriers to opportunity, and respond to urgent needs with care and creativity.

OUR PROGRAMS

SUPPORT SERVICES

By investing in artists’ potential, we are building a stronger, more inclusive creative community.

Our scholarship and grant programs support working artists in Asheville’s River Arts District with funding for spaces, education, creative development, materials, and professional growth.

Whether it’s a class, workshop, mentorship, or supplies, our goal is to remove financial obstacles and make sure all artists have access to the tools and training they need to thrive.

Scholarships include:

• Continuing education and skills training

• Artist residencies and fellowships

• Equipment or material assistance

• Marketing and business development support

AFFORDABLE SPACE

We believe artists deserve to work, live, and grow in the communities they help shape.

Space is one of the greatest challenges facing artists today. Rising rent and development threaten to displace the very people who make the River Arts District a cultural landmark. The RADA Foundation works to keep artists rooted in place through:

• Shared creative workspaces and studios

• Gallery space access and exhibition support

• Temporary space solutions during displacement or transition

• Advocacy for long-term affordability and ownership opportunities

• Grant opportunities helping artists remain open, and re-open

SCHOLARSHIPS + GRANTS

Emergency aid, stipends, and the RAD Outpost: after Hurricane Helene, these programs became a lifeline. Today, they are a permanent part of how we care for the people who create the culture of Asheville.

Our artist support services respond directly to the realities of being a working artist today. From natural disasters to economic hardship, we offer responsive aid that meets the moment.

This includes:

• Emergency stipends and relief funding

• The RAD Outpost: our downtown gallery for displaced artists

• Grants for project development and community impact

• One-on-one technical support for rebuilding and recovery

RADFEST + COMMUNITY EVENTS

These gatherings are more than just events. They are opportunities to connect, heal, and celebrate what it means to be part of a living arts community.

RADFest is our signature community celebration, a district-wide event honoring art, resilience, and creative recovery. Held each fall, it features open studios, performances, workshops, and public art experiences that bring art collectors, locals and visitors together.

The RADA Foundation also supports a calendar of events throughout the year, including:

• Seasonal art markets and festivals

• Artist panels and exhibitions

• Live demonstrations and maker experiences

• Cultural events that reflect the diversity of our district
